2010 Matching Grants Program

The 2010 matching grants program ended on April 30.

The San Francisco Japantown Foundation’s 2010 matching grants program provided up to ten (10) organizations or groups with funding of up to $4,000, fifty percent of which will come from individual donors and the other fifty percent from a dollar-for-dollar match from the Foundation.

Read our announcement of the 2010 matching grant program participants.

Organizations/groups selected for the matching grants program were asked to encourage donations be made to the organization/group through the Foundation, which were matched dollar-for-dollar up to the amount requested by the applicant, but not more than $2,000, for a possible total grant of up to $4,000.

In order to qualify for a match, donations for organizations/groups must have been made to the Foundation by Midnight Pacific Time on April 30, 2010.

In order for donations to have qualified for the match: (1) donations must have been contributed directly to the Foundation; (2) donations could have been made by any entity, such as an individual, business or other nonprofit organization – but they could not have be made from the organization/group that will receive the grant from the Foundation; and (3) donations could have been dated before the Feb. 22 start of the matching period, but must have been received by the Foundation by Midnight Pacific Time on Friday, April 30, 2010.

Organizations/groups that qualified for the Foundation’s matching grants program could not count previous donations made directly to that organization/group and could not have contributed directly to the Foundation in order to increase its earmarked donations to reach the $2,000 maximum.

If the total amount of donations earmarked to an organization/group was less than $2,000, the Foundation matched whatever amount is raised. Earmarked donations made to the Foundation for the purposes of the matching grants program, but received after the April 30 deadline, will be disbursed to the designated organization, but without a match.

The Foundation will announce the grant totals in May 2010.
